About Institute

Maritime Transport is indeed the largest and most efficient means of transport on the global scale. India is ranked as 6th manpower supplier in the International Maritime Community. The Government of Tamil Nadu established Tamil Nadu Maritime Academy in the year of 1998 with the sole purpose of improving the quality of Maritime Training so as to offer better opportunity to the aspiring Youngman in the maritime field.

In order to ensure quality education, the Government of Tamil Nadu constituted the Governing Council comprising of senior officials of Central/State Government to oversee the functioning of the Academy. At present the Principal Secretary/Chairman, Tamil Nadu Maritime Board, Chennai is the Chairman of Governing Council and managing the affairs of the Academy.
